The Magic of Focus

If you want to accomplish any great thing in this world, the first thing you need to have is ‘focus.’ You need to have a clear, distinct vision of where you want to go. What you want to achieve. An unrelenting focus. Guarding your mind from any and all distractions that will seek to divert your focus or weaken your resolve.

Then, with this focus, it becomes increasingly easy to concentrate your powers and your mental energy. Targeted like a laser directly on the goal. With a positive attitude, an optimism and an unwavering faith that, yes, indeed, your objective is already within reach.

What’s truly interesting is that the greater you concentrate your powers on a sharply defined objective, the speedier your progress. Then, in turn, this rapid progress strengthens your faith in its achievement. Which then further intensifies your concentration – sharpening your focus even more and defining your goal with increased clarity.

In so doing, distractions fade away. You find yourself ‘in flow,’ ‘in the zone’ and on your way to superior achievement. The magic of focus.

Focused on a Goal – Supporting Our Veterans:

Five years ago, prominent New Hampshire media professional, Jack Heath, came up with a great idea. With a clear and positive focus. Supporting Veterans via a Radio Thon with the proceeds benefiting a wonderful organization – Veterans Count. Veterans Count provides critical and timely financial assistance and services when no other resource is available to veterans, service members and their families, to ensure their dignity, health and overall well-being.

With focused leadership on Wednesday, this week, March 20th - Jack, supporters, his loyal listeners, and passionate patriots rallied together for 12 hours straight and raised $153,000 for Veterans Count. The phone bank was enthusiastically staffed with volunteers from across New Hampshire who manned the phones.

Now in its fifth year, the program continues to build and grow. Delivering the essentials – in times of great need – to those deserving men and women who have served our country. Whether its help with a utility bill, a critical health payment or food and shelter – or just friendly assistance from a volunteer. Veterans Count is there to help. And the resources provided by the focused effort of the Radio Thon go a long way in providing positive outcomes.

Vision and Focus - Women on a Mission:

Momentum continues with the Newport Sunshine Initiative. Gaining real traction. A powerful group has formed – women of all ages throughout Newport coming together to share their individual stories, their challenges and to connect in building a bright future. Holding their second meeting as they got together on Tuesday evening earlier this week.

As a great example of focus, the group was led by Jen Stark – who conducted a visioning session. As the poster, pictured above, illustrates – this ‘Vision Board’ begins to clarify the values, the motivation and ultimately the shared goals of this highly influential group. It’s a marvelous way to sharpen focus. For each individual who participates, as well as for the overall group. And as noted above, an exercise like this can set in motion a self-reinforcing process, a virtuous cycle of focus, progress and achievement.

Profile of the Week: Jack Heath

In addition to being our Profile of the Week, Jack Heath is a long time, dear friend of mine.

Jack is a leader in the State of New Hampshire and beyond. His thoughts, opinions and values are highly respected – on political issues and life in general in the Granite State. And, as described above, he is an active, tireless supporter of our veterans. Raising funds and leading a highly successful campaign to improve conditions and services available at the V.A. and beyond.

As a professional, he has had a highly distinguished career. Now at iHeart Radio, his ‘New Hampshire Today Show’ is a ‘must listen’ every weekday morning from 6-9 a.m. on WGIR AM and WSQO FM. Formerly, an on air reporter at several network affiliates including WCVB-TV Boston, Jack served as News Director of WMUR-TV in Manchester for many years.

As a media professional, he is an expert in strategic media, running his successful firm, Heath Communications.

As an entrepreneur, he is co-founder Pinpoint Communications, a software and educational company in the financial services sector. A former candidate for Congress. And, impressively also an author. Having written ‘Salem VI – Rebecca’s Rising and Chain of Souls, a really great read and with wonderful potential as a film one day as well.

There is so much more to write about Jack’s accomplishments, but most important, he is greatly devoted to his family, his wonderful wife Patty and their two daughters, Margaret and Emma. And of course, a truly great friend.
